- Eradicate any weeds with two doses of Glyphosate (Round Up).
- Turfgrass uses a bobcat to clear rubbish, weed or grass from the block and level areas for adequate water run off.
- Then spread some turf underlay (sand based preferably 50mm thick depending on the quality of your soil). Level sand 25mm below driveway and road gutters for Legend couch and 40mm for Sir Walter, this will ensure your turf will be flush with the surface of your driveway and road gutters.
- Use a landscape rake and screed to gain final levels.
- Watering 3 times a day e.g. morning, midday and afternoon. This will help to stop the turf from drying out
- New root growth generally takes place after 3 to 4 days for couch and 7 to 8 days for buffalo
- Couch grass should be mowed after about 7 days whilst Buffalo grasses after 2 weeks and then every week from there on.
- Spread Supergrass fertilizer over area (1 bag per 600m2).
Turf grass Tips
To keep your lawn beautiful remember to water deeply, mow regularly, aerate your lawn and feed your lawn with an organic based fertilizer.
- Give your lawn long deep water less frequently to encourage deeper root growth which in turn enhances your lawns drought tolerance. Eg 1 deep water per week.
- Mow at least once per week with a mulching mowing (sharpen blades regularly and wash mower after each use).
- Aerate your lawn in January during the wet season. You can use a pitch fork or hire a machine from Kennard’s Hire.
- Fertilize with Super Growth organic fertilizer at the start of February (1bag per 300m2) then fertilize with Super Grass 50% organic 50% synthetic (1 bag per 600m2) at the start of June and finally fertilize with Super Growth (1 bag per 300m2) at the start of October.
- If you find nut grass in your lawn, use Nut Buster which is available from Turfgrass Mackay
- If you find lawn grubs, use Fortune 500 as sold at Turfgrass.
